Some stores feel made for you.
A Show of Hands was born with equal parts impulsivity and love, rooted in the hope that, despite not having experience in retail or starting community organizations, the passion for craft, love of place, and desire to contribute to the Bozeman and Montana community would turn what was just an idea into reality.
I started knitting while sitting in a small rented room in Ireland, making mistake after mistake (this was before online video tutorials), not knowing what I was doing wrong or how to fix it. When I finally got back to it, I found a local yarn store in McCall, ID, where Linda, the owner of Keep Me in Stitches, taught me and my friend Janice how to knit, and with her help, I learned enough to create the spark that has become both a nourishing and satisfying lifelong skill.
I started weaving in 2019 and took to it immediately. Currently in a master weaving program, I look forward to offering what I’ve learned from the long line of teachers I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from over the years. My dream is to one day have a room full of looms for learning and creating, where the community can engage and benefit from the fabric woven there, and experiences are woven there.
A Show of Hands wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the many mentors, teachers, and friends who taught me along the way. This is a place to honor teachers, makers, and students at any stage of their journey. Nurturing beauty-the act of making it, the art of becoming it, and the willingness to see it in life on a moment-to-moment basis are central to what we do here. I hope you can join me. Let's make something beautiful together.
