COMO Grande Bouclé is our brand new SUPERLIGHT Bouclé yarn made of 100% superfine merino wool with 18.5 microns thus achieves the category Bulky (yardage 131 yd. on 1.76 oz.). The carded yarn achieves its unique volume and its extremely soft feel through an innovative manufacturing method. The temperature-regulating and breathable properties of merino wool are supported positively, and the light wool fluff creates a noble, discreetly matt surface.
The mulesing-free raw wool for COMO Grande Bouclé is sourced from selected Australian shepherds and is spun and dyed in Italy by a family-run traditional company. The merino wool used is certified regarding animal welfare, sustainability and social responsibility and this yarn is certified according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Product Class I (textiles and materials for infants and toddlers up to three years of age).
These properties make COMO Grande Bouclé particularly versatile. Thanks to the softness and machine washability it is very suitable for baby clothes, accessories and everything that should be cuddly soft.
COMO Grande Bouclé can excellently be worked one-stranded, but also offers the ideal basis for combinations with our other qualities. For an extra portion of fluff and even more softness, COMO Grande Bouclé can be wonderfully knitted with our Super-Kid mohair yarn PREMIA.
LAMANA color world: Due to the carefully coordinated colors, our qualities can be combined very harmoniously with each other, but also offer the possibilities of light nuances and strong contrasts.
Care: COMO Grande Bouclé can be washed in the washing machine using the wool cycle at 30°. The wool then blooms again and becomes noticeably softer, fluffier and the knitting pattern even more dense. We recommend the use of a neutral, mild wool detergent without enzymes and plasticizers, in very low doses. Then dry the knitted piece gently lying flat and avoid direct sunlight.
COMO Family: COMO, COMO Tweed, COMO Grande, COMO Grande Bouclé, COMO Grande Tweed and COMO Cashmere are perfectly matched to each other. COMO is identical in thickness and gauge to Como Tweed and COMO Cashmere. Knitted double-stranded, two COMO strands correspond to one strand of COMO Grande. Thus, all patterns from COMO Grande Tweed and COMO Grande can be knitted accordingly with COMO.
The LAMANA SUPERLIGHT Collection – for featherlight knitwear:
Thanks to innovative manufacturing processes, our SUPERLIGHT yarns offer a unique lightness. As a result the knitted favorite pieces weigh significantly less than usual and offer an incomparably airy wearing comfort.

Yarn weight refers to the thickness of a yarn. Thickness determines appropriate needle or hook size, finished fabric density, and yardage requirements. Standard weight categories from thinnest to thickest: lace, fingering, sport, DK, worsted, bulky, super bulky.
Weight labels on yarn are approximate. Wraps per inch (WPI) gives a more precise measurement. To measure WPI: wrap yarn snugly around a ruler for one inch, without overlapping strands or stretching. Count the wraps.
WPI reference:
WPI is most useful when a label is missing, when substituting yarns, or when working with handspun yarn.
Gauge is the number of stitches and rows per inch in a knitted or crocheted fabric. It is determined by yarn weight, needle or hook size, and individual tension. A pattern’s gauge is the measurement the designer used to calculate sizing. If your gauge does not match the pattern, your finished dimensions will differ. A small difference over many inches makes a big difference in fit.
To adjust gauge: a smaller needle or hook produces more stitches per inch; a larger needle or hook produces fewer. The goal is to match the pattern’s gauge, not its suggested needle size.
Sett is the weaving equivalent of wraps per inch (WPI). Sett controls how open or dense the finished woven cloth will be. A standard starting point for sett is half the WPI for a balanced plain weave. Twill structures generally require a slightly closer sett; lace structures a more open one.
Both gauge and sett are starting points that need to be confirmed by sampling. Calculate first, then verify with a swatch. Record what you find; your future self will thank you.
Blocking is the process of wetting a finished piece, shaping it, and allowing it to dry. It evens out stitches, sets the final dimensions, and for lace, opens the pattern fully.
For protein fibers (wool, alpaca, cashmere): soak in cool water with a small amount of wool wash until fully saturated, typically 15 to 20 minutes. Gently press out water without wringing. Roll in a towel to remove excess moisture. Lay flat, shape to finished measurements, and pin if needed. Allow to dry completely before moving.
For lace pieces, blocking wires threaded through edge stitches produces cleaner lines than pins alone.
